The Arab Chambers vice-president of Foreign Relations will talk about the Brazils International Presence: outlooks, possibilities and relations with the Arab countries on October 21, in São Paulo.
São Paulo – The vice president of Foreign Relations of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, ambassador Osmar Chohfi, will give a lecture on Saturday, October 21, at Syrian Sports Club in São Paulo, about “Brazil’s International Presence: outlooks, possibilities and relations with Arab countries.”
The diplomat will talk about some aspects of Brazil’s position in the global scenario. “I will pick some priority topics of international politics, such as, for instance, relations with South America and topics of the multilateral agenda, such as the environmental issue,” said Chohfi to ANBA.
Chohfi is a former secretary-general of Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty), Brazil’s permanent representative at the Organization of American States (OAS), Brazil’s ambassador in Ecuador and Spain, and worked in Brazilian diplomatic representations in France, Bolivia, Argentina and Venezuela. “I want to pass the idea of why foreign policy and diplomacy are important to Brazil,” said the ambassador.
He plans to also talk about Brazil’s relations with the Arab countries under the political and commercial viewpoints. “I see as evident the economic complementarity and the exporting capacity between Brazil and the Arab countries,” he said.
According to the diplomat, the commercial exchange is positive to both sides, since the Arabs export products that Brazil needs, such as oil and fertilizers, and Brazil sells goods that the Arabs need, such as food products. “We have to explore more and look to enrich this trade with other products and market niches,” he said.
In the political side, Chohfi said that Brazil and the Arab countries endorse similar positions on different topics of the international agenda and recalled that there is an important discussion mechanism for these discussions, the Summit of South American-Arab Countries (ASPA), which had its fourth edition in Saudi Arabia in 2015. “And always simultaneously to ASPA there’s a business forum, which responsibility lies on the Arab Chamber as driving force,” he said.
