Banks’ inflation forecast revised down

Brazilian financial institutions are expecting the consumer price index to be 7.27% by the end of the year. Last week’s projection had been 7.29%.

Brasília – Brazilian financial institutions’ projection for inflation, measured by the national extended consumer price index Índice Nacional de Preços ao Consumidor Amplo (IPCA), decreased slightly from 7.29% to 7.27%. The forecast for 2017 also dropped, from 5.50% to 5.43%. The estimates are part of a weekly poll released by the Central Bank on Mondays.

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contraction expectation changed from 3.44% to 3.35% in 2016 and remained at 1% for the next year. The US dollar price projection moved from BRL 3.60 to BRL 3.46 at the end of 2016 and from BRL 3.80 to BRL 3.70 for the end of 2017.
