Brasília to spend USD 9.48 million on Olympics

The federal capital will host soccer games of the Rio 2016 Olympics from August 4 to 13. The money will be used mainly for security.
Brasília – Brasília will spend BRL 32 million (USD 9.48 million) on the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games, which runs from August 4 to 13. From this total, BRL 13 million (USD 3.85 million) will go for the event’s security. The estimation was made by the Federal District’s governor Rodrigo Rollemberg in press conference at Palácio Buriti this Friday (24).
The first day of competition in the capital will be August 4, a doubleheader including the debut of the men’s soccer national team, which plays South Africa at Brasília National Stadium Mané Garrincha. Iraq and Denmark play on the same day at 1 pm. The city will host ten soccer matches, seven from the men’s and three from the women’s competition.
The estimation is for the spending during the 10 days of competition to reach BRL 150 million (USD 44.43 million). According to Rollemberg, the city expects to register 600,000 guest nights, which will benefit the city’s economy, he added.
