Clothing imports decline in Brazil

Purchases of clothing abroad declined 60% in April over the same month of 2015, according to the sectors association.
São Paulo – Imports of clothing by Brazil dropped 60% in volume in April over the same month of last year, according to data released by the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (Abit). According to the association, it was the steepest slide since January 2000. In this year’s April, 5,219 tons were imported, against 12,928 tons in the same month of 2015.
The sector cut down on the number of dismissals in April. In the fourth month of last year, 5,149 jobs were cut, against 633 dismissals this year.
