Countries donate USD 867 million to refugees

Amount promised by donors this Tuesday accounts to 11% for all the funding needs for 2018, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
São Paulo – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that donor countries have committed to transferring at least USD 857 million in aid to refugees in 2018. The UN agency estimates that there are 67 million people displaced or stateless throughout the world.
The sum to be donated was announced this Tuesday (5) in Geneva, and according to the UNHCR it accounts for 11% of all the funding needed for the year, which is expected to be around USD 7.5 billion. Some of the main emergency situations regarding refugees are in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
