São Paulo – The Brazilian Ministry of Defense reported this Monday (4) that minister Raul Jungmann is on an official trip to Arab countries. He is travelling with 14 Brazilian defense and security companies. On Saturday (2), Jungmann was welcomed by Jordan’s king Abdullah II in Aqaba, along the Red Sea coast.
“We have similarities like our democracy and our concern with global peace and stability,” a ministry statement quoted Jungmann as saying. The king said his country’s ties with Brazil are a priority for Jordan when it comes to Latin America, also according to the ministry’s statement.
Jungmann also met with foreign minister Ayman Safadi, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff Mahmoud Freihat and prime minister Hani Al-Mulki. Brazil’s Defense Ministry said both countries are keen on building ties in the defense sector, and that a cooperation agreement could come about.
Jungmann announced that Brazil’s foreign minister Aloysio Nunes and president Michel Temer may travel to Jordan in 2018.
The delegation also travelled to Tunisia. They were welcomed by secretary of state for Foreign Affairs Sabri Bachtobji – the former ambassador of Tunisia in Brazil – and by Air Force chief of staff Mohamed Hajjem.
