10 de outubro de 2017

Brasília – Brazil’s grain crop is seen increasing in volume and planted area. The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) said this Monday (10) that total cereal, legume and oilseed output should be 1.1 million tons, up 0.5% and 1.1 million tons from the August forecast. The estimate for planted area moved up by 0.2% and 143,600 hectares.

The numbers confirm that the country will see its biggest crop ever this year at 242 million tons, up 30.3% from 2016. Total planted area is expected to amount to 61.2 million hectares, up 7.3% from 2016.

The National Supply Company (Conab) also released its projections regarding harvest numbers, but it works with the crop season, whereas the IBGE works with yearly figures. Conab estimates that the grain crop during the 2017/2018 season will be in the 224.1 million- to 228.2 million-ton range, which means a drop of between 4.3% and 6% compared with the past season.
