Industrial production down 9.8% until May

After two months going up, industry’s performance remained stable in May. With this result, in the first five months of the year the decline almost reached 10%.

Rio de Janeiro – After two consecutive months going up (1.4% in March and 0.2% in April), Brazilian industrial production ended May registering zero expansion in comparison to the previous month, in the season-adjusted series. With this result, industrial production in the first five months of the year remained negative, ending the period going down 9.8%.

The data from the Monthly Survey of Industry – Physical Production Brazil was released this Friday (1) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). In the series not seasonally adjusted, in comparison to the same month of the previous year the industrial production ended May with a decline of 7.8%. Year-to-year ending in May, the index declined 9.5%.
