Lebanese expatriates can register to vote

São Paulo – Lebanese citizens who live in Brazil can register to vote in next year’s Parliamentary elections – the country’s first nationwide ballot since 2009. Registration begins on October 1st.
According to the website of the Embassy of Brasília in Lebanon (http://brasilia.mfa.gov.lb), would-be expatriate voters can register in three different ways: on the website of the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, via a smartphone app, or by going to the Embassy.
An online form will be available in five different languages – Arabic, French, English, Portuguese and Spanish – from October 1 at www.mfa.gov.lb. The form will be up on the same date in MOFA ONLINE, a smartphone app which is already available on iOS and Android.
After registering online or through the app, users will get a text or email message with a code to activate their account. They will also be asked to provide documentation. All registrations will be validated by a Ministry employee.
Lebanese expatriates can also register at the Embassy of Lebanon from Monday to Friday, 9 am to 3 pm. The deadline for registration is October 20.
Next year’s election for parliament will be the country’s first major one since 2009. Three other attempts fell through. Lebanon’s parliament is tasked with choosing the president, currently the 84-year-old military officer Michel Aoun.
