Refugees receive Portuguese diploma

A class of more than 80 students, most of them Syrian, was the first one to graduate from a course offered by mosque Mesquita Brasil in São Paulo.
São Paulo – A group of over 80 people, mostly Syrians, took part in the first graduation ceremony of a Portuguese language course for refugees offered by mosque Mesquita Brasil. The event happened in São Paulo on May 31. The course is a partnership between the mosque, the Muslim charity Sociedade Beneficente Muçulmana and the United States consulate.
The classes, for basic and intermediate students, began in November of last year and were taught by teachers with knowledge of Arabic. Of the 80 graduates, 50 have completed the basic level and some are already on the labor market.
